Joyland is primarily about a joint family headed by father Rana Amanullah and his two sons Haider and Salim. Each family member has their own dynamic. Everyone tries to be fit but everyone has their own unwanted desires that they are striving for. Hyder is the black sheep of the family who, despite their best efforts, cannot live up to the expectations of their father or society. She finally found her calling after getting a job as a background dancer in a dance troupe led by Beba. Biba is a transgender in Pakistan who is trying to make her place in the society but is not given a chance. When the two misfits meet, sparks immediately fly between them. This relationship sets in motion a butterfly effect, with not-so-pleasant results.

The acting is superb across the board and both the dialogues and the screenplay are commendable but solid. The film shows the audience a mirror of the everyday wrongs that happen around us. We can either turn a blind eye to it or address it. The choice is ours as the audience. No one is a villain here, just trying to live up to the standards he sets for himself and break the glass ceiling one step at a time.

Now coming to the matter of the film. I think the trailer of this movie actually hurt the movie. This film is not only about Biba and Haider's relationship. People who haven't seen the movie are protesting for all the wrong reasons. It is a very mature film that tackles the problems faced by everyone from the youngest member of the family to the eldest. The best scene in this movie, for me, doesn't even involve Beba. It is the pre-climax scene that is the most telling, albeit the most tender, scene in the film. It packs a punch and when the credits roll, you realize you've just finished watching one of the top movies of the year.

Joy Land Movie

This portrayal of Pakistan is patriarchal and misogynistic. About 70-70 elders of the Rana clan rule, while the neighboring widow's son tries to control his mother. Regardless of education or ability, women are considered housewives and (preferably male) child rearers.Younger son Haider has an unconventional marriage. Wife Mumtaz works in a beauty salon, while he stays at home and is the uncle-parent to his nieces. Humiliated and harassed by her father for not working, she accepts a job suggested by one of her friends as a backup dancer - Beba, a transwoman - And telling his family that the job is theater manager. As a man who has never left his hometown of Lahore, he falls in love with this more worldly woman, and his late-night "work" is suspicious of his wife.By Western standards, the production values are spotty, and I may have missed some minor plot points because of it. The acting is believable, and the portrayal of life is good (I loved the "women's car" scene on mass transit.) The film is bold in its subject matter of trans folk and unconventional sexuality. I saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival, where in a Q+A the director admitted to the difficulty of casting Haider, when some actors turned down the role after learning of the story. The title, incidentally, refers not only to the amusement park that plays a minor role, but also to those who are trying to find their happy place. The word masterpiece is not enough to describe this movie. This is the first Pakistani movie I am watching and I believe it is definitely my favorite movie of 2022. Every frame of a film is like a painting. The cinematography is just so stunning and wonderful. I have no words to describe the beauty of this movie. The way they show the geography, the way the interior shots are staged and the lighting in the scenes, the metro train scenes, are all my favourites. There is nothing in this film that I didn't like or felt could have been changed. The music is great, I mean a groovy and good music that blends wonderfully with the scenes. The writing of the characters is then something of a different level. Such amazing and awesome characters. Every character is fully expressed in the film. The dialogues are amazing, very natural. I seriously have no words to describe the performance. Aleena Khan as Beba is the star of the film, just so stunning and beautiful. Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, Sarwat Geelani, the character of the father and the children, all give such natural and surprising performances. The way this film shows the intricacies and complexities of a relationship is rarely seen and shown in films.Throughout the year, there are a few films that I mark as the most anticipated films. Ever since I first saw the trailer for Joyland, I was intrigued and looking forward to experiencing it. Over time, the film garnered accolades in the festival circuit and was banned in its home country of Pakistan. I finally got a chance to see it last week and I was not disappointed. I have one problem with the movie but it's not related to its quality. More on that later.

Details of joyland

It is a bold film and director Saeem Safiq should be commended for having the courage to make this film where he is from. The clever thing here is that he doesn't demonize or criticize something as sensitive as religion. Rather, he attacks the evil of patriarchy and the devastating effects it can have on a family that splits from its core until nothing remains. While most of the films we have here show how women are affected by the patriarchy, this film does a wonderful job of showing that it is just as toxic to men as it is to them. Instills unrealistic expectations of being a man from birth.
