Just an average movie....Let's kick Alia Bhatt out of the nepotism gang, she's a because of her own caliber...she made it There isn't a bigger actor in Bollywood at the moment than Alia Bhatt All the women out there, watch out Few dialogues are as original as they have never been heard, touching directly on t ...More 606 people found this helpful. profile picture Nidhun Thankachan 3 months ago Black comedy has become a delicious new genre in Bollywood, especially for astute filmmakers, portraying scathing critiques of social ills that abound in India's conservative society. While Badhai Do (2022) addressed the lack of acceptance of homosexuality, Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) used humor to convey a powerful message about female fetal killing. And now, Netflix's latest Hindi offering, Darling, takes spousal abuse head-on, delivering a delightfully zany, whimsical comedy where every performance stands out. Alia Bhatt plays "Badru," a seemingly shy housewife who is constantly abused by her drunk husband "Hamza" (a sensational Vijay Varma). Badru's mother "Shamshu" (the ever-reliable Shefali Shah) is tired of seeing her son-in-law brutalizing her daughter and plans with her business partner "Zulfi" (Mollywood's very own Roshan Mathew) to find ways to get Badru to do it to finally admit her predicament and leave her abusive spouse. The hair-raising schemes and schemes the mother-daughter duo hatch and their bungling execution are a joy to behold as Alia and Shefali effortlessly deliver nerve-wracking comedy, forming an irrepressible duo from their first scene together.

Vijay Varma is very reminiscent of a young Kay Kay Menon in the way he invades his characters, continuing the same rich vein of form that made him a household name through 'Mirzapur', where he has the dual roles of Bharat and Shatrughan Tyagi played . Director Jasmeet K Reen uses her four talented actors to delicious effect and throws plenty of twists into the proceedings to keep you guessing. Rajesh Sharma and Vijay Maurya excel in their supporting roles, supporting the chaos unleashed by the main cast. Darlings is a bold attempt at the relatively under-explored genre in Bollywood, and producers Gauri Khan and Alia Bhatt made the right decision by releasing it straight to OTT. It's a testament to the reach and impact of OTT platforms like Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime and the minimum guarantee they offer that filmmakers are encouraged to bring such bold and innovative stories to cinema. Now streaming on Netflix, Darlings is a must-watch!
